The more you write, the longer you take notes with Sparkle, the more you will appreciate, and marvel at what a great treasure your writings or your mountains of notes turn out to be.
The editing interface of the feather-light Sparkle is minimal, to the point that in most cases the only UI element is the text cursor, on your entire screen. All the essential and innovative functionalities stand by in the context menus, mostly accessible by keyboard shortcuts.
Finally, you are in the zone.
Sparkle is designed by top-notch designers of the industry. Every layout detail is meticulously taken care of, to make sure that even pure texts are always a pure delight to your eyes.
Experiment with your favourite typefaces, theme colours and modes. The charm is always guaranteed, to brighten your inspired writing hours.
click the Sparkle icon in the Dock, or in the status bar, to start writing or taking notes instantly. With its feather-light body weight and austere memory consumption, Sparkle is always ready at your fingertips.
With Instant Editor, you can take notes from any other apps with just one keyboard shortcut
(“copy”, Command + C)
Now you can work on the main text and its sketch side by side, on any text document, so that your work in progress is always clean, no matter how messy the work site is.
Navigate through long documents with simplicity and fluidity. And use keywords to add another insightful dimension to the structure of your writings.
Bold, italic, highlight, annotation, link, list, three levels of titles, three customisable text colours, with support for images in texts: png, .jpeg, .gif, .tiff, .heic, .svg, .webP, and .pdf. All based on the simplest and most common “.txt” file format.
Sparkle is armed to the teeth. Even secondary functionalities save your time and boost your productivity: statistics on three levels, autosave with multiple versions, search in entire project, one-click dictionary, timestamps, empty paragraphs cleaning… your writing tool is feather-light, but power-packed.
Apple Intelligence Writing tools are seamlessly integrated in Sparkle.
“It really sparkled!”
I have the habit of taking notes for many years and inevitably I have never
look over again or remember even the existence of most of them, simply because I don’t know where to start. Now I don’t need to know where to start. Just click on Sparkle and it really sparkled!

“Pure as driven snow”
It’s like writing on a piece of new paper. Simple and enjoyable like that. Especially when you start writing something new, in the middle of nowhere.

“Best-looking editor ever!”
Brilliant work! I love how it’s designed, from the icon to the way it presents itself only when necessary. For me it’s the best-looking editor I’ve ever run into, not for its interface, but for rendering my words so beautifully.

“When I’m distracted by absolutely nothing”
It’s fascinating to see how the creator of this app hides everything from you, without making them any hard for you to find, when you really need them. Better even, it hides my messy thoughts in the sketch panel.

“Unexpectedly time-saving”
I haven’t spent much time with Sparkle yet but already it saved much of my time, simply by cleaning all the empty paragraphs in one click and adding timestamps for my development journal. I didn’t download Sparkle for these but… imagine having to do these by yourself!

Your memory is nonlinear, nor is Sparkle. To help you find the inspirations hidden in the mountains of texts that are your writings and notes, not only is Sparkle presenting you a random paragraph through time and files, but also, presenting it with style, to impress you. Even the randomised background colour of each fullscreen slide is attentively controlled, with just the right saturation and brightness, for you to enjoy the treasure hunting of inspirations.

Sparkle is frugal with the formatting freedom it offers. So frugal that you may begin to question whether the developers have put enough thoughts and time into it. Nothing more, and nothing less but the essentials. The essentials that brings out the thoughts and insights with clarity, without letting the form overcloud the content, the tool outweighs the target.
It is by this uncompromising frugality that Sparkle makes things simple and easy for you, so that your precious time can be spent on seizing the inspirations, so that your results are always essentially elegant.
Inspiration has wings. To catch it, you have to be light and fast. Your tool has to be light and fast. The launching, the recalling-out, the formatting, the switching, the finding of the functionalities, the saving and backing up, the sparkling….every operation should be done, light and fast. And that’s the spirit of Sparkle.

It’s not, in the sense that you don’t have complete control over your layout. It is, in the sense that it’s created to boost the productivity and efficiency of the demanding writers and readers.
No, Sparkle is a writing / note-taking tool, rather than a design tool like InDesign. It is made in such a way that you don’t need to worry about the layout design part of your texts.
It’s an option, if you trade off more complete control on layout, for design, simplicity, and efficiency. As system applications, they will always be there to help you in need. What we recommend you to do is to set Sparkle as default application to open all “.txt” files.
No, Sparkle itself doesn’t synchronise your files across multiple devices, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t benefit from the seamless experience. Simply create a folder in a cloud drive, and select it from Sparkle as your project folder.
No, Sparkle only support “.txt” and its own file format “.sparkle”, when images are packed into texts. On the other hand, you can easily export “.rtf” files from Sparkle for further editing in Pages or Word.
Unfortunately no, not for the moment. But the yearly subscription fee is less than 2 US dollars.
It’s created by a small multinational team of independent developers and designers, based in Brittany, France.
